# Have AI call the airline for you

> Tell your agent the airline, the confirmation code, the passenger's name and what you need. CallForMe calls, works the menu, waits on hold and asks. Airlines usually verify the passenger before changing a ticket, so pass your number as transfer_to and the assistant connects you once an agent answers. $1 per answered call, then $0.40 a minute.

**Say to your agent:** "Call the airline about confirmation KQ7PLM for Jordan Lee, flight 1418 on Friday, November 6. Ask whether a wheelchair can meet the flight at the gate on arrival and add it to the booking. If they need to verify me, connect me at (214) 555-0100."

Airline calls are mostly waiting. The menu is long, the hold is longer, and the person who answers may need to verify you before doing anything. Your agent can do the waiting, ask the questions that don't need you, and bring you in only for the part that does.

## Paste this into your agent

> Call the airline about confirmation KQ7PLM for Jordan Lee, flight 1418 on Friday, November 6. Ask whether a wheelchair can meet the flight at the gate on arrival and add it to the booking. If they need to verify me, connect me at (214) 555-0100.

Other airline calls:

- "My flight was cancelled. Call the airline, get the rebooking options for confirmation KQ7PLM, and connect me at (214) 555-0100 before they change anything."
- "Call the airline's baggage line about file DFW12345 for a delayed bag. Ask where it is and when it'll be delivered."
- "Ask the airline what the checked bag fee is on a basic economy ticket from Dallas to Denver, and whether a car seat counts as a bag."

## What the airline will ask

Airline calls are the flight category in `plan_call`: it flags **the confirmation code** and **the flight number and date**. Goals that change, cancel or rebook a ticket, or touch miles or a loyalty account, also get the tip to set `transfer_to`, because a code may be texted to the passenger. The example above gives the code, the name, the flight and a number to connect you. Have these ready:

- The confirmation code (six characters) and the name on the ticket, spelled.
- The flight date and route.
- The loyalty number, for anything about miles.
- Your number, as `transfer_to`, if anything may change the ticket.

## Questions worth asking

- For a delay or cancellation: what rebooking options exist, and is there a meal or hotel voucher?
- For a change: the fare difference and any change fee, before anything is booked.
- For a refund: the amount, the method (card or credit) and how long it takes.
- The agent's name and a reference number for the call.

## Long holds

Airline holds can run long, and every minute after the first two is $0.40. Two settings keep it in check: `max_cost_usd` ends the call at that amount, and `transfer_to` means you're only on the phone once a person is there. The assistant waits through the hold music on its own. See [keep long-hold calls on a budget](/guides/ai-phone-calls-on-a-budget).

## What it costs

$1 per answered call, including the first 2 minutes, then $0.40 a minute, up to 30 minutes ($12.20). A 12-minute call (10 minutes past the first 2) is $5.00. A call nobody answers costs nothing.

## FAQ

### Can the assistant change or cancel my ticket?

It can ask for it, and some airlines will make a change for a caller with the confirmation code and name. Most verify the passenger first, often with a code texted to the account holder. The assistant never reads codes out, so pass transfer_to: it waits through the menu and hold and connects you when it's time to verify.

### How long will the hold be?

It varies by airline, time of day and whether there's a storm. Set max_cost_usd to cap the call (3 is about 7 minutes), or call early in the morning. Calls end on their own at 30 minutes ($12.20).

### What is the 24-hour rule?

For flights to, from or within the US booked at least seven days before departure, US Department of Transportation rules require airlines to either hold the fare for 24 hours without payment or let you cancel within 24 hours for a full refund to your original payment. See [cancel a flight within 24 hours](/use-cases/cancel-flight-within-24-hours).

### What can it do without me on the line?

Questions that don't change the ticket: baggage rules and fees for your fare, whether a seat or meal request is on the booking, flight status, and the status of a lost bag with its file reference. Have it ask for the agent's name and a reference number.
