# Have AI call locksmiths for you

> Tell your agent the job (rekey, new deadbolt, spare car key), your zip and when you're home. CallForMe calls locksmiths near you and asks each for the trip fee, the labor charge and the per-lock or per-key price, so you compare the full price before anyone shows up. Each answered call costs $1.

**Say to your agent:** "Call 4 locksmiths near 80205 to rekey 3 exterior door locks on a house, all Kwikset. Ask each for the trip fee, the per-lock price, any minimum, and the earliest visit. Get their business name and street address."

Locksmith calls are price calls. The work is quick and the parts are cheap, so what you pay comes down to how the company adds up its charges. Your agent's job is to get every charge named on the phone, from a business with a real address, before anyone is in your driveway.

## Paste this into your agent

> Call 4 locksmiths near 80205 to rekey 3 exterior door locks on a house, all Kwikset. Ask each for the trip fee, the per-lock price, any minimum, and the earliest visit. Get their business name and street address.

Other locksmith calls:

- "Ask locksmiths near 30318 what they charge to cut and program a spare key for a 2019 Honda CR-V with push-button start, and whether they come to me."
- "Call 3 locksmiths about installing 2 new deadbolts I already bought. Price with my hardware, and price if they supply it."
- "Find a locksmith near 94110 who can open a home safe tomorrow afternoon. Ask the price and if they need the model number."

## What the locksmith will ask

Locksmith is on the trades list in `plan_call`, so it flags **the service address or zip** and **when you're available**, and adds the tip that trades often won't commit to a firm price without seeing the job. Ask for the pieces of the price instead.

A car key is different. Any goal that pairs "car" with a price word ("how much to make a spare car key") also lands in the vehicle quote category, which marks **year, make and model** as blocking. If you leave the car out, the locksmith asks for it and the business waits while your agent finds the answer.

Other things locksmiths ask:

- What brand are the locks, and how many? Rekeying is priced per cylinder.
- Do you want all the locks on one key?
- Residential, commercial, or a car?
- For cars: is it a chip key, a flip key, or a fob, and do you have a working key to copy?

## Questions worth asking

- Trip or service call fee, and is it included in the job?
- Labor charge, and is it flat or by the hour?
- Per-lock or per-key price, and the cost of each extra key.
- Any after-hours or weekend surcharge?
- The business's legal name and street address.
- Do you take cards, and will I get an itemized receipt?

## The local listing that isn't local

Some locksmith listings are answered by a call center that sends the job to whichever contractor is free. The tell on the phone: the person won't give a business name beyond "locksmith service," can't name a street address, or quotes a very low "starting at" price without asking anything about your locks. Have your agent ask for the name and address on every call and record the answers. A shop that gives both, and quotes per lock after asking your brand and count, is the one to book.

## How call_around works for locksmiths

`query: "locksmith"` near your zip with `count: 4` gets you a comparison. Leave out `stop_after` so every shop answers the same questions. If you only want shops that already have reviews, set `min_rating: 4`. call_around skips businesses that are closed right now and never dials before 7am local time, so run price comparisons during the day.

## What trips these calls up

- **"Starting at" prices.** The assistant records a starting price as a starting price. Your agent should treat it as unknown until the per-lock number is named.
- **Mobile-only shops.** Many locksmiths have no storefront and the owner answers from a job. Expect short calls and the occasional voicemail.
- **Car keys by VIN.** Some shops want the VIN to look up the key. The assistant gives it only if you put it in details.

## What it costs

$1 per locksmith that answers, including the first 2 minutes. Four locksmiths, all answer, every call under 2 minutes: $4. A shop that doesn't pick up costs nothing.

## FAQ

### Why ask for the full price instead of just the service call?

A low phone price is often only the trip fee. Labor, per-lock charges and parts get added at the door, when you're least able to say no. Asking for every piece before the visit lets you compare totals.

### Can it get a locksmith to me when I'm locked out at night?

call_around waits until 7am local time. A single call to a locksmith that's open around the clock can go out at night with after_hours set, but if you're stuck outside right now, calling a 24-hour line yourself is faster.

### Will the locksmith ask for proof I own the place?

Usually at the door, not on the phone. Reputable locksmiths ask for ID with your address, a lease, or the car's registration before opening or rekeying anything. Have it ready.

### What does it need for a car key?

Year, make and model, and whether the key has a chip or a push-button start. Put them in details. plan_call treats a car key price as a vehicle quote and flags the year, make and model as the one thing that blocks the call.
