# iPhone Hold Assist vs CallForMe: wait on hold, or skip the call

> Hold Assist is a free iPhone feature (iPhone 12 and later): you dial and work the menu, then it holds your place and alerts you when an agent comes on, with a transcript of what you missed. CallForMe (callforme.tel) makes the whole call from the AI agent you already use: it dials, works the menu, waits on hold, and finishes the errand or patches you in. $1 per answered call.

## What Hold Assist is

Hold Assist is part of the Phone app on iPhone. On a call where you're put on hold, you tap More, then Hold Assist, or accept when your iPhone detects the hold. You can step away; when an agent comes on, you're alerted to join, and you see a transcript of anything you missed, transcribed on the device ([Apple Support](https://support.apple.com/en-us/127521)). Apple notes the ringer needs to be on, since silent mode or Do Not Disturb hides the alert.

### Which iPhones have Hold Assist?

Apple lists iPhone 12, iPhone SE (3rd generation) and later, and says it isn't available in all countries or regions. Hold Assist Detection is on by default in the Phone app's settings.

### Do I still have to make the call with Hold Assist?

Yes. You dial, get through the menu, and start Hold Assist when you're put on hold (or accept when the iPhone detects the hold). With CallForMe, the assistant dials and works the menu as well.

### Can CallForMe ring me when a person picks up, like Hold Assist?
