# What number does an AI call come from? Can they call back?

> Every CallForMe call comes from +1 (469) 966-0062, not your own phone. If the business calls that number back, an assistant answers, says it's CallForMe, tells them which customer the call was for by first name, and takes a message. The message shows up for your agent, and by email if you've signed in.

**Say to your agent:** "Call Ridgeline Plumbing for a water heater quote. Give them my cell, 214-555-0148, as the callback number."

## The number on their screen

Every call CallForMe places shows **+1 (469) 966-0062** as the caller ID. It's the same number for every customer, and it's a real line that answers when called back. It isn't your number, and there's no way to make the call show your number instead.

That's on purpose. The business hears "an AI assistant calling for Sam, on a recorded line" in the first sentence, so the number on screen and the voice on the line agree about who's calling. See [what an AI call sounds like to the business](/guides/what-an-ai-call-sounds-like).

## Give them a way to reach you

Most errands finish on the first call. For the ones that don't (a quote that needs a site visit, a manager who isn't in yet), your agent has two options:

- **`callback_number`**: your own phone. The assistant gives it to the business so they can call you directly. Good for quotes and follow-ups.
- **`transfer_to`**: also your phone, but used live. The assistant waits through the menu and hold, and once a person answers it connects you. Good for banks, carriers and anything that has to verify the account holder. See [have an AI wait on hold and patch you in](/guides/ai-agent-hold-and-patch-in).

## When they call the number back

Businesses often return a missed call, or call back later with an answer: "we found that part", "the doctor can see her Thursday". When someone calls (469) 966-0062:

1. **An assistant answers** and says it's CallForMe, an AI calling service.
2. **It finds your call.** It looks for calls CallForMe placed to that number in the last 7 days and tells the caller it was calling for a customer, using only your first name and the general topic.
3. **It takes a message**, including who's calling and the best number to reach them.
4. **Your agent sees it.** The message is attached to your call as `callbacks` the next time your agent checks it with `get_call`. If your account has a verified email (you've signed in on the [account page](/account)), you also get an email.

If the caller asks not to be called again, that opt-out applies to every CallForMe customer, not only you.

## What the callback assistant won't share

Anyone can fake a caller ID, so the callback line assumes it might not be the business. It never reads out your phone number, email, account numbers or the details you gave your agent. It confirms who the call was for by first name and describes the reason in general terms ("about a quote"), then takes the message.

## Missed calls and voicemail

If your call reached voicemail and you left a message, the business may call back the number in that message (yours) or the number on their screen (ours). Both work: the first reaches you, the second reaches the callback assistant. See [what happens when an AI call reaches voicemail](/guides/ai-call-reaches-voicemail).

## A note for businesses

If you got a call from (469) 966-0062 and want to know what it was, see [got a call from us?](/for-businesses) You can ask not to be called again there, by phone, or by email at hello@greatwork.company.

## FAQ

### Can the call come from my own phone number?

No. Calls come from CallForMe's number, (469) 966-0062. Pass callback_number so the business can reach you directly, or transfer_to to be patched in live.

### What does the business hear if they call back?

An assistant says it's CallForMe, that it called for a customer (first name and the general topic only), and offers to take a message. They can also ask not to be called again.

### How does my agent see the message?

It appears under callbacks when your agent checks the call with get_call. If your account has a verified email, you also get it by email.

### Does the callback assistant share my phone number?

No. Caller ID can be faked, so it only says your first name and what the call was about in general terms. No phone numbers, emails or details.
