# Have your AI agent call the airline about a delay or rebooking

> Tell your agent your flight, the delay, and what you want. CallForMe calls the airline, gets through the menu and hold, and asks what compensation and rebooking options exist. Because airlines verify the passenger before changing a ticket, the assistant patches you in with transfer_to to accept the option you want.

**Say to your agent:** "My flight was delayed 7 hours. Call the airline, ask for compensation, and ask about rebooking me on the first flight tomorrow."

## What you say to your agent

> My flight was delayed 7 hours. Call the airline, ask for compensation, and ask about rebooking me on the first flight tomorrow.

After a bad travel day, the last thing you want is a long hold with the airline. Your agent can sit in the queue, ask the questions, and only bring you in for the part where the airline needs you.

## What your agent does

1. **plan_call** with your flight details. It flags what the agent will ask: confirmation code, passenger name, and which flight you want instead.
2. **place_call** with `transfer_to`:

```json
{
  "phone": "+18005550133",
  "business_name": "Airline reservations",
  "goal": "Ask about compensation for a 7-hour delay on flight 1234 on Sept 27, and ask about rebooking the return on the first flight tomorrow morning. Once the rep has options, connect the passenger to confirm.",
  "details": "Passenger Jake Marsh, confirmation ABC123. Flight 1234 DFW to LAX on Sept 27 was delayed 7 hours. Wants the earliest flight tomorrow on the return LAX to DFW, originally Oct 2.",
  "questions": [
    "What compensation is offered for this delay?",
    "What are the earliest flights tomorrow and is there a change fee?",
    "How will the compensation be issued?"
  ],
  "on_behalf_of": "Jake Marsh",
  "callback_number": "+12145550199",
  "transfer_to": "+12145550199",
  "constraints": "Don't accept any change that costs money. Don't give card numbers. Connect the passenger before any ticket change."
}
```

3. **get_call** with `wait_seconds: 50` on a loop while the assistant waits on hold. If the rep asks "window or aisle?", your agent sees `pending_question` and answers with **answer_question**.
4. When the rep has options, your phone rings. You confirm and the rep finishes the change with you.

## Example result

Example transcript excerpt:

> **Rep:** Reservations, this is Marcus.
> **Assistant:** Hi Marcus, I'm an automated assistant calling on behalf of Jake Marsh, confirmation ABC123. His flight on the 27th was delayed seven hours, and he'd like to know what compensation is available and what the first flight tomorrow looks like.
> **Rep:** I can offer a $150 travel credit for the delay. First flight tomorrow is 6:10am, no change fee.
> **Assistant:** Thank you. I'm connecting Jake now so he can confirm the change.

What your agent tells you:

| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Compensation offered | $150 travel credit |
| Rebooking option | 6:10am tomorrow, no change fee |
| Hold time | 22 minutes |
| Status | Transferred to you to confirm |

Call length 26 minutes, $6.25.

## Tips

- **Give the exact flight and date.** The confirmation code alone sometimes isn't enough for a past segment.
- **Ask how compensation is issued.** Credit, miles, or refund to the original card are very different.
- **Try the app first for simple rebooks.** Call when the app can't help or when you're asking for compensation.
- **Call early in the day.** Queues after big weather events can exceed the 30-minute call limit.

## What it costs

Holds count as call time. A 26-minute call is $1 plus 21 minutes at $0.25, so $6.25. The most a single call can cost is $7.25.

## FAQ

### Can the AI rebook my flight?

Airlines usually need to verify the passenger before changing a ticket. The assistant gathers the options and connects you with transfer_to so you confirm the change yourself.

### What compensation can I ask for?

It depends on the airline's policy and the cause of the delay. The assistant asks what they offer and reports it. It doesn't argue legal rights it wasn't given in details.

### How long will the hold be?

After big disruptions, airline holds can be long. A single call can last up to 30 minutes. If the hold runs past that, the call ends and your agent can try again.

### Does it matter that the call comes from a different number?

No. The assistant gives your confirmation code, and if the airline needs to reach you it has your callback_number.
