# Returning a leased car? Have your AI agent call the dealer

> Tell your agent the car, the leasing company, the lease end date and the dealership. CallForMe calls the dealer and asks whether they accept your return, whether you need an appointment, what to bring, whether they do a pre-inspection, and what they can tell you about wear, mileage and turn-in fees. The buyout or payoff amount usually comes from the leasing company, so your agent can call that line too.

**Say to your agent:** "Call Lakeside Audi and ask whether they take lease returns for a 2023 Audi Q5 leased through the brand's finance company, ending November 20. Ask if I need an appointment, what to bring, and whether they can pre-inspect it."

A lease ending is a handful of small questions spread across two places: the dealership that takes the car back and the leasing company that holds the contract. None of them are hard, and all of them are phone calls.

## The calls, and what to ask

| Who | What to ask |
|---|---|
| The dealership you'll return it to | Do you accept returns for this brand and leasing company? Do I need an appointment? Hours for returns? What should I bring? Can you pre-inspect it? |
| The leasing company | Lease end date, the buyout or payoff amount and how long it's good for, the turn-in or disposition fee, mileage and wear charges, how to schedule an inspection |
| A second dealer, if you're shopping | Would you buy the car out of the lease, and at what price? |

## What your agent does

1. **find_business** for the dealer's sales or service line, if you don't have it.
2. **place_call** with the car, the leasing company and the end date in the request:

<details><summary>What your agent sends (for developers)</summary>

```json
{
  "phone": "+12145550166",
  "business_name": "Lakeside Audi",
  "goal": "Ask whether they accept lease returns for a 2023 Audi Q5 leased through the brand's finance company, lease ending November 20. Ask if an appointment is needed, the hours for returns, what to bring, and whether they can pre-inspect the car.",
  "details": "2023 Audi Q5, lease ends November 20. Lessee Sam Ortiz.",
  "questions": [
    "Do you accept this lease return?",
    "Do I need an appointment, and what are the hours for returns?",
    "What should I bring?",
    "Can you pre-inspect it before the return date?"
  ],
  "on_behalf_of": "Sam Ortiz"
}
```

</details>

3. **get_call** with `wait_seconds: 50`, repeated until it ends.

## Example result

Illustrative example: the dealership, names and details are made up.

| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Accept the return? | Yes, any of the brand's leases |
| Appointment? | Yes, weekdays 9 to 5, ask for the lease-return desk |
| What to bring | Both keys, the manual, driver's license |
| Pre-inspection? | Yes, free, about 20 minutes, a week ahead |

Call length 2m 40s, $1.40.

## Tips

- **Call a few weeks before the end date.** It leaves time for a pre-inspection and to fix small damage if it makes sense.
- **Ask the dealer for the person who handles returns.** Sales lines often transfer lease returns to one desk; a name saves the next call.
- **Get the payoff quote in writing.** Ask the leasing company how they send it, and pass `transfer_to` if they need to verify you.
- **Thinking of buying it out?** A second dealer may offer more for the car than the buyout price. Ask the same question at two or three.

## What it costs

$1 per answered call, including the first 2 minutes, then $0.40 a minute. A line that doesn't answer costs nothing.

## FAQ

### Do I have to return the car to the dealer I leased it from?

Usually not. Leases through a brand's own finance company can typically be returned at any dealer of that brand, but each dealer sets its own hours and whether it wants an appointment, which is why the call is worth making. Your lease contract and the leasing company have the final word.

### Who gives me the buyout price?

The leasing company, not the dealer, in most cases. Have your agent call the leasing company's line for the payoff amount and how long the quote is good for. Their line usually verifies the account holder, so pass transfer_to with your number and the assistant patches you in when a person answers.

### What should I bring?

Ask the dealer, since it varies. Common answers are both keys, the owner's manual, your driver's license and the current odometer reading. The call gets you their exact list.

### What does it cost?

$1 per answered call, including the first 2 minutes, then $0.40 a minute. A dealer call like this usually takes 2 to 4 minutes; nothing is charged if nobody answers.
