# Stop or Start Utility Service When You Move, by AI Call

> Tell your agent your move date, both addresses, and the account number. CallForMe calls the utility, works through the phone menu and hold, and asks to schedule the stop or start. If the utility needs the account holder to verify, it patches you in. You get the date, confirmation number, and any final-bill details.

**Say to your agent:** "Call the city water utility and schedule a stop of service at 412 Elm St on Oct 31. Account 55-20931. Ask where the final bill goes and get a confirmation number."

## What you say to your agent

> Call the city water utility and schedule a stop of service at 412 Elm St on Oct 31. Account 55-20931. Ask where the final bill goes and get a confirmation number.

Moving means calling water, gas, electric, internet, and trash, often on different days, each with its own phone menu. Your agent can queue up these calls and track the confirmation numbers.

## What your agent does

1. **find_business** finds the utility's customer service number. Your agent should prefer the number on your bill if you have it.
2. **plan_call** writes the opener and flags likely questions: forwarding address for the final bill, the account holder's name, and whether the meter is accessible.
3. **place_call** dials:

```json
{
  "phone": "+14695550100",
  "business_name": "City Water Utilities",
  "goal": "Schedule a stop of water service at 412 Elm St effective Oct 31, 2026 and get a confirmation number.",
  "details": "Account 55-20931, account holder Jamie Ortiz. Service address 412 Elm St. Forwarding address for final bill: 88 Birch Ln, Apt 4. Meter is in the front yard.",
  "questions": ["Is the stop scheduled for Oct 31?", "What is the confirmation number?", "Where and when will the final bill be sent?", "Is the deposit refunded, and how?"],
  "on_behalf_of": "Jamie Ortiz",
  "transfer_to": "+14695550133",
  "constraints": "Do not agree to any fees. Do not cancel any other services."
}
```

4. The voice agent picks "stop service" in the menu, waits on hold, and asks. **get_call** polls until `ended`.

## Tips

- Put the forwarding address in `details`. Every utility asks.
- Stop service the day after you move out, not before, so you're not without water on moving day.
- For a batch, ask your agent to make one call per utility and collect confirmations in a single table.
- Starting service at a new address may require a deposit or credit check. Expect to be patched in or asked to call.

## What it costs

$1 if it's done within 5 minutes of someone answering, then $0.25 a minute. A 10 minute hold plus the request runs about $3.50.

## FAQ

### Will the utility let an assistant stop my service?

Many will schedule a stop with the account number and service address. Some require the account holder. Set transfer_to so you can verify if asked.

### Can it start service at my new place too?

Yes, with a second call. Starting service sometimes needs a deposit or ID check, which the voice agent won't provide. It will tell you what's needed.

### Will it give my SSN for a credit check?

No. It never gives SSNs over the phone. If the utility needs one, you'll be patched in or told to call.
