# Find a vet accepting new patients with an AI call-around

When you move, or your old vet stops taking appointments for weeks, you need a new clinic. A clinic's site rarely says whether it's taking new patients this month, and online booking may be for existing clients only. So it comes down to calling clinics one by one. ## Questions worth asking

- Are you taking new patients, and for which kinds of pets? (Some clinics close to new dogs but not cats, or the reverse.)
- What is the new patient exam fee, and what does it include?
- When is the first opening, and is there a cancellation list?
- What records do you need, and can you request them from my old clinic?
- Do you see exotic pets (rabbits, birds, reptiles)? Ask this first if you have one.

## What trips these calls up

- **Busy front desks.** Clinics juggle a lobby and the phone. The assistant waits on hold, which makes some calls run past 2 minutes.
- **"New patients" by species.** Ask about your kind of pet, not new patients in general.
- **Exam fee vs the whole visit.** The exam fee rarely includes vaccines or tests. Ask what it covers if you want to compare totals.

### Why not book online?

Online booking may be open only to existing clients, and a clinic's site rarely says whether it's taking new patients this month. The front desk knows today's answer, so a call gets it.

### What will the clinic ask about my pet?

Species, breed, age and weight, what the visit is for, and whether your pet is up to date on vaccines. Put those in details, plus your previous clinic's name so they can request records.

### Is this for emergencies?

No. If your pet is hurt or very sick, call an emergency vet yourself right away. A call-around is for finding a regular clinic or a routine visit.

### Can it book the visit?

Yes. After you pick from the table, your agent places one more call to book, with your name, phone number and the pet's details.
