Have AI call eye doctors for you
Short answer: Tell your agent what you need: an eye exam, a contact lens fitting, a price on your contacts, or whether your glasses are ready. CallForMe calls the optometrist's office, asks whether they take your vision plan, finds the first opening that fits, and books it if you say so. Each answered call costs $1.
Optometry offices are part clinic, part store. The same front desk books exams, answers insurance questions, quotes contact lens prices and tells you whether your glasses came in. That makes them easy to call about almost anything, as long as the call says which of those you want.
Paste this into your agent
Call 3 optometrists near 30306 and ask for the earliest eye exam with a contact lens fitting on a Saturday, whether they take my vision plan through work, and the exam price without insurance.
Other eye doctor calls:
- "Call Brightline Eye Care and ask the price of a 90-day box of my contacts, and whether they have 4 boxes in stock. My prescription is from them, last March."
- "Ask Clearview Optical whether my glasses are ready. The order was placed September 28 under Dana Brooks."
- "Find an optometrist near 94110 with an opening this week for a pink, itchy eye. If they'd rather I go to urgent care, ask why."
What the office will ask
How plan_call reads your goal depends on the words you use, and here that matters more than usual:
- "Optometrist" or "eye exam" alone doesn't match any category, so
plan_callwon't flag anything. The office will still ask for your name and a callback number to book, and often your date of birth. Add them to details yourself. - "Eye doctor" contains "doctor," which triggers both the appointment category (name, date and time, callback number) and the medical category (date of birth).
- "Appointment" or "fitting appointment" triggers the appointment category without the date of birth flag.
- "Vision insurance" triggers the insurance category, which flags a member number and date of birth, and adds the account-holder tip to use
transfer_to. A front desk checking whether it takes your plan rarely needs either. "Do you take my vision plan through work" asks the same thing without the flags. - "How much" or "price" adds the generic quote category, which asks for the exact item. For contacts, that means the brand, the box size and how many boxes.
Questions worth asking
- Earliest exam, and is a contact lens fitting a separate fee?
- Exam price without insurance.
- Do you take my vision plan, and what does it cover (exam, frames allowance, contacts allowance)?
- Do you dilate at the first visit? (You may want someone to drive you.)
- Price per box for my lenses, and is there a rebate or annual-supply price?
- How long do new glasses take?
How call_around works for eye doctors
query: "optometrist" near your zip, count: 3 to 5. Big-box optical shops and independent practices both answer to that query, and their prices for the same exam can differ a lot, so a call-around is worth it for a cash-pay exam. For a booking, stop_after: 1 stops dialing once one office books you. Many independent practices close one weekday and open Saturday mornings; ask for Saturday in the goal if that's when you're free.
What trips these calls up
- Plan name versus carrier. Vision plans come under an employer or a medical plan's brand. Give the name your benefits card uses.
- Exam versus fitting. Book "an eye exam" and you may get one without the contact lens check. Say both.
- Doctor schedules. The optometrist may be in only certain days. The front desk can book only those days.
- Order lookups. Asking whether glasses are ready needs the name on the order and the date.
plan_callmay treat "ready for pickup" as a pickup order and ask for a name and callback number, which is what the office needs anyway.
What it costs
$1 per office that answers, including 5 minutes. Three offices answer, one call runs 6 minutes while they check the plan: $1 + $1 + $1.25 = $3.25. Offices that don't answer cost nothing.

Questions
Is an exam with contacts different from a regular eye exam?
Usually, yes. Offices often charge a separate contact lens fitting fee on top of the exam, and some vision plans cover it only in part. Ask for both prices.
Can it order my contacts?
It can ask the price and whether they're in stock, and reserve them if the office does that by phone. It won't read out a card number, so you pay when you pick up or through the office's own link.
Will they need my date of birth?
Often, to find you or your plan. Put it in details if you're comfortable sharing it, or leave it out and the question comes to your agent mid-call.
My prescription is expiring. Can I get contacts without an exam?
That's the office's call, and many won't sell more lenses on an expired prescription. Ask your agent to find out, and book the exam if they say no.
