Can AI book an appointment for you by phone?
Short answer: Yes. Tell your agent what to book, when you're free, and anything the business will ask for. CallForMe calls, asks for a time inside your window, books it, and returns the booked time and confirmation number. If they offer something outside your window, it asks your agent first or takes the alternative you pre-approved.
What a booking call needs
A receptionist asks the same few things every time. Give your agent these up front and the call goes straight through:
- Who it's for. Your name as the business should hear it (
on_behalf_of). - What to book. "A cleaning", "a men's haircut, 30 minutes", "table for 4".
- When you're free. A window, not one time: "any weekday morning next week" books far more often than "Tuesday at 9".
- What they'll ask. New-patient offices ask for a date of birth and insurance; salons ask for a stylist; restaurants ask for a name and party size. Put these in
details. - A callback number. Most places want one on the booking.
Not sure what they'll ask? Your agent can run plan_call first. It's free and lists what that kind of business usually asks for, so your agent can get it from you before dialing. See how to write a good call goal.
Pre-approve the fallback
The most common thing that happens on a booking call is "we don't have that, but we have...". Decide ahead of time:
If they offer another time, anything 8 to 11am on a weekday next week is fine. A different hygienist is fine.
That goes in if_asked. With it, the assistant books the alternative on the spot. Without it, the assistant asks your agent mid-call and the business waits on the line.
Set hard limits in constraints: "Don't book anything after 5pm", "Don't agree to a cancellation fee over $25." The assistant won't cross them.
What you get back
When the call ends, your agent gets:
outcome.type:bookedwhen a time was confirmedbooked_time: the time as the business said itconfirmation_number, when they gave onedeviations: anything different from what you asked ("Thursday instead of Tuesday")- The answer to each question you asked ("Do you take Delta Dental?")
If your account has a verified email, you also get a result email with a calendar file for the booked time. See transcripts, recordings and result emails.
Things it won't do
- Pay. The assistant never gives card numbers, security codes or passwords over the phone. If the business needs a card to hold the slot, it says you'll call to pay, or your agent can patch you in with
transfer_to. - Pretend to be you. It says it's an AI assistant calling for you.
- Book with a business that won't talk to an AI. It says goodbye politely and your agent tells you to call them yourself. See will a business hang up on an AI call.

Rehearse it free
Maple Street Pizza at (469) 770-7412 is a fictional demo restaurant that takes reservations. Ask your agent: "Book a table for 4 at Maple Street Pizza this Friday between 7 and 8:30, and get the confirmation number." Demo calls cost nothing and need no account. Real bookings cost $1 per answered call, including the first 5 minutes.
Questions
What if the time I want is taken?
If you said what else works in if_asked, the assistant takes it. If not, it asks your agent mid-call, and the business waits about 45 seconds for the answer.
Can it pay a deposit?
No. The assistant never reads out card numbers. If a deposit needs a card, it says you'll pay directly, or your agent can use transfer_to to connect you for that part.
Will I get it on my calendar?
If your account has a verified email, the result email for a booked call includes a calendar file. Your agent also gets the booked time and can add it itself.
Can it reschedule or cancel instead?
Yes. Give it the existing appointment (date, name, confirmation number if you have one) and say what to change.
