PlaceCall vs CallForMe: AI calls to businesses

PlaceCall and CallForMe both give your agent a remote MCP server that calls businesses, works phone menus and hold, asks your agent questions mid-call, and returns a transcript. PlaceCall costs less per call. CallForMe connects with no form, also calls Canada, patches you in, leaves voicemail messages, and speaks 17 languages.

What PlaceCall is

PlaceCall is a calling API from VOYGR, a Y Combinator W26 company. Your agent sends a plain-English brief and a US number, or a list of numbers. It works the phone menu and hold, can raise a question to your agent mid-call, and returns one of 17 outcomes plus a transcript and recording. It ships as a remote MCP server, a REST API, and skills or plugins for Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor, and others (GitHub).

When to pick PlaceCall

  • You make many short calls to US businesses and price per call matters most.
  • You want call types with a pre-call check of missing fields, and idempotency keys on every request.

When to pick CallForMe

  • You want it working in your agent in under a minute, with nothing to sign up for until the first real call.
  • You call Canadian businesses, or businesses that speak Vietnamese, Korean, Cantonese, Tagalog, or Arabic.
  • You need to be patched in once a person picks up, like waiting on hold for you.
  • You want to shop a quote across many places with one request. See contractor quotes.

Questions

Is PlaceCall cheaper than CallForMe?

Yes. As of October 2026 PlaceCall charges 10 credits, which is $0.10, for a call that reaches a real conversation. CallForMe charges $1 per answered call including the first 5 minutes, then $0.25 a minute. Neither charges when nobody answers.

Does PlaceCall call Canada?

Its docs say US destination numbers only, as of October 2026. CallForMe calls US and Canadian numbers.

Which one is easier to set up?

CallForMe needs only the URL https://callforme.tel/mcp and a click on Connect, with no sign-in form. PlaceCall's connector asks you to sign in with Google or email and accept its terms, or to paste an API key it emails you.

Can either one patch me into the call?

CallForMe can: pass transfer_to with your phone and it connects you once a person answers, after menus and hold. We didn't find a patch-in option in PlaceCall's docs as of October 2026.
