Have your AI agent return a business call for you

Short answer: Tell your agent who called, what it was about, what it may tell them and what to hold back. CallForMe calls them back for you, says it's calling for you, answers their questions from what you gave it, writes down anything new, and says you'll follow up on the rest. Each answered call costs $1 including the first 2 minutes.

“Return Dana's call at Harbor Supply for me. She asked about our order for 40 folding tables. Tell her delivery on the 12th still works and the dock closes at 4. If she asks about a price change, say I'll call her tomorrow. Ask what she needed besides that.”

A day of meetings ends with four voicemails: the supplier about a delivery date, the dealer about paperwork, a client's office with a question. Most of them need two minutes and an answer you already know. Your agent can return those calls while you're on the others.

What your agent does

  1. place_call with who called and why, what it may tell them, and what to defer to you:
What your agent sends (for developers)
{
  "phone": "+12145550188",
  "business_name": "Harbor Supply",
  "goal": "Return Dana's call about the order for 40 folding tables. Tell her delivery on the 12th still works and the loading dock closes at 4pm. If she raises a price change or anything else that changes the order, say Sam will call her tomorrow. Ask whether she needed anything besides the delivery.",
  "details": "Order for 40 folding tables, delivery on the 12th. Dock closes at 4pm.",
  "questions": ["Did she need anything besides the delivery?"],
  "if_asked": "If they ask whether someone can sign for the delivery: yes, anyone at the front desk can sign.",
  "on_behalf_of": "Sam Ortiz"
}
  1. get_call with wait_seconds: 50, repeated. If Dana asks something the goal doesn't cover, it shows up as pending_question and your agent answers with answer_question.

Example result

Illustrative example: the business, names and order are made up.

Dana: Harbor Supply, this is Dana.

Assistant: Hi Dana, this is an assistant calling for Sam Ortiz, on a recorded line, returning your call about the order for 40 folding tables.

Dana: Oh, thanks. I wanted to make sure the 12th still works.

Assistant: It does. The loading dock closes at 4.

Dana: Great. Can someone sign for it if Sam's out?

Assistant: Yes, anyone at the front desk can sign.

Tips

  • Say why they called. "About the order for 40 folding tables" in the goal lets the assistant open with it, which is what a returned call sounds like.
  • List what it may share and what it may not. Dates, hours and order details are easy; prices, discounts and changes usually wait for you.
  • Pre-answer the obvious follow-ups with if_asked, so the call doesn't pause on "can someone sign for it?".
  • Batch your voicemails. Your agent can return several calls at once (up to 10 run at a time) and give you one summary.

What it costs

$1 per answered call, including the first 2 minutes, then $0.40 a minute. Most returned calls fit in the first 2 minutes. If nobody picks up, there's no charge.

Questions

Who can it call back?

Businesses and people calling on a business's behalf: a supplier, a dealer, a vendor, a client's office. It doesn't call personal numbers, and it isn't for cold outreach.

What if they ask something I didn't cover?

The question comes back to your agent while the call is live, and it can answer from the conversation or ask you. If nobody answers in about 45 seconds, the assistant says you'll follow up on that point and finishes the rest of the call.

Will they know it isn't me?

Yes. It opens with "an assistant calling for" you, on a recorded line, and says it's an AI whenever anyone asks. People returning a business call are used to talking to an assistant.

Can it agree to a price or sign off on something?

Only if your goal says exactly that. Anything else that commits you (a price, a change to an order, a contract) gets "let me check with" you and goes back to your agent.
