How to let ChatGPT call a business

ChatGPT doesn't place outbound calls to businesses on its own. You can add that by connecting CallForMe as a custom MCP connector in ChatGPT's developer mode, using the URL https://callforme.tel/mcp. Then ask ChatGPT to call a business, and it plans the call, places it, and reads you the results.

The short answer

ChatGPT talks to you, but it doesn't call anyone. To let it call a restaurant, a store or a customer service line, you give it a tool that places calls. CallForMe is that tool. You add it once as a connector and then ask in plain English.

Add CallForMe to ChatGPT

1. Open ChatGPT settings and go to Apps and Connectors.
2. Under Advanced, turn on developer mode.
3. Create a new connector. Name it CallForMe.
4. Set the MCP server URL to https://callforme.tel/mcp.
5. Set authentication to OAuth (not "No authentication") and create it.
6. Click Connect. A browser tab opens and closes by itself. No email, form or card.
7. In a new chat, enable the CallForMe connector from the tools menu.

Make the call

Try something with a clear goal and a couple of questions:

Call Riverside Plumbing at (214) 555-0143. I need a leaking kitchen faucet replaced this week. Ask their price for replacement with a faucet I supply, and their earliest opening. My name is Priya.

ChatGPT will:

1. Use plan_call to preview the call and see which questions the plumber is likely to ask (your address, the faucet type).
2. Ask you for anything missing, like your ZIP code.
3. Call place_call. On your first call it gets back a setup link, https://callforme.tel/go/<code>, and shows it to you.
4. After you add $10 on that page, it calls place_call again with the same setup code and the call goes out.
5. Poll get_call until the call ends, then summarize: price, earliest slot, anything the plumber needs from you.

After the first call

That setup link shows up once. Your card is saved with auto-reload, so every later chat just calls. If you add CallForMe to another agent later, its first call link recognizes you and links it to the same account in one click, with no second payment.

If you don't have developer mode

You can still use CallForMe from anything that runs a shell or makes HTTP requests. Point your agent at callforme.tel/skill.md and it uses the REST API with curl. Or use it from Claude, Codex or Cursor.

What the business hears

"Hi, I'm an automated assistant calling on behalf of Priya." The assistant never claims to be a person, never gives out card numbers or passwords, and won't agree to charges beyond the limits you set. The call comes from +1 (469) 966-0062. See safety and disclosure.

What happens during the call

While the call runs, ChatGPT checks on it with get_call. Most of the time there's nothing for you to do. If the business asks something ChatGPT doesn't know, like your street address or whether a different day works, ChatGPT sees it as a pending_question and either answers from your chat or asks you. The voice assistant waits about a minute for the answer. Keep the chat open for the first few minutes after you ask for a call so ChatGPT can respond. When the call ends, ChatGPT reads the result: the answers to each of your questions, a short summary, and details like a quoted price or appointment time. The full transcript is there too if you want to check exactly what was said.

Tips for better results

• Give ChatGPT your name so the assistant can say who it's calling for.
• Say what you won't accept. "Don't agree to more than $250" becomes a hard limit on the call.
• Ask ChatGPT to preview first. "Plan the call before you place it" gets you the opening line and a list of questions the business will likely ask.
• Batch similar calls. "Call these four plumbers with the same questions and give me a table" works well. See quotes from several businesses.
