How to give Claude a phone

Add CallForMe as an MCP server. In claude.ai or Claude Desktop, add a custom connector with the URL https://callforme.tel/mcp and click Connect. In Claude Code, run claude mcp add with the same URL, then authenticate once from /mcp. Then ask Claude to call a business.

The short answer

Claude can't dial a phone on its own. It can use tools, though, and CallForMe is a tool that places phone calls. Add it once and Claude can call a restaurant, a store, a clinic or a customer service line, then tell you what happened.

Claude Code

From your terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user callforme https://callforme.tel/mcp

Then run /mcp in Claude Code, pick callforme, and choose Authenticate. Full steps are on the Claude Code page.

Claude Desktop and claude.ai

1. Open Customize, then Connectors.
2. Choose Add, then Add custom connector.
3. Name it CallForMe and paste https://callforme.tel/mcp as the URL.
4. Click Continue, Add, then Connect. A window opens and closes by itself. No email, form or card.
5. Set CallForMe's tools to Always allow so Claude doesn't ask each time it checks on a call.

Your first call

Ask Claude something like:

Call Nonna's on Elm Street and book a table for 4 on Friday between 7 and 8:30. Ask for a booth if they have one. The reservation is under Sam.

Here's what Claude does with that:

1. Calls find_business to get Nonna's number and check it's open.
2. Calls plan_call to see the opening line, a checklist, and questions the restaurant might ask (like a phone number for the reservation).
3. Calls place_call with the goal, details, and your questions.
4. The first time, the response says needs_setup with a link like https://callforme.tel/go/abc123. Claude shows it to you. You open it, see the exact call about to be placed, add $10, and come back.
5. Claude calls place_call again with the same setup code. The phone rings.
6. Claude polls get_call until the call ends, then tells you the result: "Booked for 4 at 7:45 Friday under Sam. No booths left, they put you by the window."

That setup link shows up once. Your card is saved with auto-reload, so every later chat and session just calls. Add CallForMe to another agent later and its first call link recognizes you and links it to the same account in one click.

What Claude can do with a phone

• Call several shops and compare quotes (auto repair quotes)
• Ask whether something is in stock and have it held (check product stock)
• Wait on hold and patch you in when a person answers (hold for me)
• Move an appointment (reschedule)
• Ask about holiday hours (holiday hours)

Why Claude is a good fit for this

Claude already knows what you're trying to do. It has your context from the conversation: the dates, the car model, the order number. That makes a better call than a form. And when the business asks something unexpected, Claude can answer from that context in the moment instead of the call going nowhere.

Tips

• Tell Claude your name for on_behalf_of. The assistant opens with "calling on behalf of" that name.
• Give limits in plain words. "Don't agree to more than $200" becomes a constraints value the assistant won't cross.
• Give Claude a callback number if you want the business to reach you directly.
• Stay near the chat during the call. If a question comes back, Claude has about a minute to answer before the assistant says it'll call back.

Using Claude Code for several calls at once

Claude Code is good at batches. Ask something like:

Find four groomers near 75024 that are open today. Call each one: 60 lb goldendoodle, full groom next Saturday. Get price and times. Put the results in a table and don't book yet.

Claude places one call per groomer with the same questions, checks on each with get_call, and builds the table when they finish. Groomers that don't pick up cost nothing. When you've picked one, ask Claude to call back and book. See quotes from several businesses.
