Can Siri or Alexa call a business for you?

Short answer: They can dial, but you do the talking. Apple and Amazon document Siri and Alexa placing calls and connecting you, not holding the conversation for you. To have the whole call handled, use an AI agent with a phone tool: CallForMe works from ChatGPT or Claude, including their phone apps, and reports back.

The short answer

Siri and Alexa place the call, and then the conversation is yours. Neither Apple's nor Amazon's documentation, as of November 2026, describes the assistant getting through the phone menu, talking to the business, and bringing back the answer.

What Siri does

Apple's iPhone guide covers asking Siri to call or dial a number, digit by digit, or to call a contact ("Call Eliza's mobile"). The call connects and you talk.

Two iPhone features help on a call you're making yourself:

  • Call Context (iOS 27). It uses the number you dial to identify the business, then finds tickets, orders or confirmation numbers in Mail, Messages, Wallet and Calendar and shows them on screen. It needs an Apple Intelligence device. You still read the details out.
  • Hold Assist. It waits in the queue after you've dialed and worked the menu, then alerts you. See how it compares.

Apple's Siri AI announcement from September 2026 mentions Call Context for business calls and doesn't describe Siri holding a conversation with a business. Siri AI began as a beta in English and needs an Apple Intelligence device.

What Alexa does

Alexa can call most mobile and landline numbers in the US, UK, Canada and Mexico, and each household profile picks up to 100 numbers. Calls go through an Alexa device or the Alexa app, and you talk through it. Amazon rules out emergency numbers, premium-rate numbers, three-digit codes and dial-by-letter numbers.

Alexa+ comes closer to the errand itself. Amazon's local booking help page says it finds nearby businesses and books services like haircuts and massages. Its partner announcement names Angi, Yelp, Square and Expedia, arriving in 2026, alongside Thumbtack and Vagaro. Amazon describes this as a voice conversation that replaces making phone calls. So it covers businesses those partners reach, for what they support. It won't ask your mechanic whether the car is ready.

How to get the whole call handled

You need an AI agent with a phone tool. CallForMe is that tool: you ask your agent, and a voice assistant dials the business you name, works the menu, waits on hold, asks your questions, and sends back the answers and a transcript. If the business asks something new, the question comes back to your agent during the call.

You don't need a new app on your phone:

  1. Add CallForMe once in a browser: ChatGPT from its plugin directory, or Claude as a custom connector with https://callforme.tel/mcp.
  2. Open the ChatGPT or Claude app on your phone and ask. It's in the same account.
  3. The first call to a real business returns a link. You see the call about to be placed and add $5, once.

Try a fictional demo business first. It's free, with no card, up to 6 calls a day:

Call Oak Street Auto at (469) 402-2653 and ask if my car is ready and what I owe.

Then use it for what Siri and Alexa leave to you:

Call my dentist's office at (972) 555-0142 and ask for their first opening next week for a cleaning. I can do mornings. Tell me what they offer before booking.

Some calls still need you. Banks and other account holders often verify the customer, and the assistant won't read out one-time codes. It can wait on hold and patch you in when a person answers.

Questions

Can Siri make a reservation by calling a restaurant?

Siri can dial the restaurant, and then you talk. Apple's documentation doesn't describe Siri speaking to the business for you, including in the September 2026 Siri AI announcement.

Can Alexa+ book appointments?

Yes, for some services. Amazon says Alexa+ finds nearby businesses and books services like haircuts and massages, and works with partners such as Square and Thumbtack. Amazon's pages don't say it places a phone call to do this, so it depends on what those partners cover.

Which numbers can't Alexa call?

Amazon lists emergency numbers like 911, premium-rate numbers like 1-900, three-digit codes like 211, dial-by-letter numbers like 1-800-FLOWERS, and most numbers outside its supported countries.

Can I ask Siri or Alexa to use CallForMe?

We haven't found a documented way as of November 2026. On your phone, open the ChatGPT or Claude app and ask there. Add CallForMe once at chatgpt.com or claude.ai and it shows up in that service's apps.

What does CallForMe cost?

$1 per answered call including the first 2 minutes, then $0.40 a minute, and nothing when nobody answers. It calls businesses in the US and Canada, not personal numbers.
