Have AI call pharmacies for you
Connect CallForMe to your agent and ask it to call the pharmacy. The assistant gets past the store menu to the pharmacy counter, asks about stock, a refill, hours or a shot, and reports back. Your agent can call one pharmacy or every pharmacy near a zip code. Each answered call costs $1.
Pharmacy calls are short questions behind a long menu. The store line answers first, then asks you to press a key for the pharmacy, then the pharmacy line plays its own menu about refills. The assistant works through both and waits for a person at the counter.
Paste this into your agent
Call the pharmacies near 75024 and ask which ones have amoxicillin 500mg capsules in stock today and what time the pharmacy counter closes.
Other pharmacy calls people send:
- "Call my pharmacy and ask if my refill is ready. Rx number 6012345, date of birth 4/12/1988."
- "Ask the pharmacies near me which ones give walk-in flu shots today and whether they need an appointment for the COVID shot."
- "Call the pharmacy on Preston Road and ask how much 30 tablets of generic Lipitor 20mg costs without insurance."
What the pharmacy will ask
When your agent runs plan_call with a goal that mentions a pharmacy, prescription or refill, it flags three things the pharmacist usually asks for: the patient's name, the date of birth, and the prescription number. Date of birth is marked as blocking, because a pharmacist looking up a profile can't go further without it. For a plain stock or hours question you don't need any of it, so tell your agent to say in constraints that this is a general question and nothing personal should be shared.
Questions worth asking
- Is this drug and strength in stock, and is it brand or generic?
- How many units do you have? (A shortage often means "we have 10, not 30.")
- If it's out, when does your next order arrive?
- What does the cash price come to without insurance?
- What time does the pharmacy counter close today? (It often closes before the store.)
- Do you need anything to transfer a prescription from another pharmacy?
How call_around works for pharmacies
call_around with query: "pharmacy" and your zip finds pharmacies with a phone number that are open now and calls them, 5 at a time by default. Use queries to widen it, for example ["pharmacy", "drugstore", "compounding pharmacy"]. For a shortage, set stop_after: 1 so it stops at the first pharmacy that has it. Grocery store pharmacies count too, and their menus are the longest.
Late at night, call_around waits until 7am at each pharmacy. If you need a 24-hour pharmacy right now, have your agent use find_business and place_call with after_hours: true for that one store.
What trips these calls up
- Controlled substances. Many pharmacies won't confirm stock for ADHD medication or opioids by phone unless you're a patient there. The assistant reports the refusal so you can move on. See prescription stock checks.
- Counter hours. The store may be open while the pharmacy is closed for lunch, often 1:30 to 2pm. A call then reaches a recording.
- Automated refill lines. Some pharmacy menus only offer automated refills unless you press a different key for a pharmacist. The assistant listens for that option.
What it costs
$1 per pharmacy that answers, including the first 5 minutes. Pharmacy holds are usually short. Eight pharmacies where six pick up and each call ends under 5 minutes costs $6. One long hold that runs 9 minutes costs $2.

Questions
Will the pharmacist talk to an AI?
Most answer general questions like stock, hours and whether they give walk-in flu shots. Questions about a specific patient's prescription usually need a date of birth, and some pharmacies want the patient on the line.
Can it call a 24-hour pharmacy at night?
Yes, as a single call with after_hours set. CallForMe otherwise doesn't call between 10pm and 7am local time, and call_around always waits for 7am.
Does it share my date of birth?
Only if you put it in details or answer the question when the pharmacist asks. For a stock check you can tell it not to share anything personal.
Can it order a refill?
It can ask the pharmacy to fill a refill you already have on file if you give your name, date of birth and the Rx number. It can't get a new prescription from your doctor.
