Check an Insurance Claim Status With an AI Phone Call
Tell your agent the insurer, the claim number, and what you want to know. CallForMe dials the claims line, works the phone menu, waits on hold, and asks for the status and any missing documents. If the rep needs to verify the policyholder, it patches you in with transfer_to instead of guessing or sharing private data.
What you say to your agent
Call Lakeside Insurance about claim #CL-448210. Find out where it stands and what documents they still need. If they need to verify me, patch me in at 214-555-0147.
Claim status calls are almost all waiting. You navigate a phone tree, sit on hold, give a claim number, and hear "it's with the adjuster." Your agent can do the waiting part and bring you in only if the rep needs you.
What your agent does
- find_business looks up the insurer's claims line if you didn't give a number. For large carriers your agent may prefer the number printed on your policy or claim letter, which is usually the right department.
- plan_call drafts the opening line and checklist, and flags what the rep is likely to ask that you haven't covered (date of loss, policy number, your date of birth).
- place_call dials with the claim number and your name in
details, and your phone intransfer_to:
{
"phone": "+18005550199",
"business_name": "Lakeside Insurance",
"goal": "Get the current status of auto claim CL-448210 and the list of documents still needed.",
"details": "Policyholder: Jordan Reyes. Claim number CL-448210. Date of loss: Aug 30, 2026. Vehicle: 2021 Honda Civic.",
"questions": ["What is the current status of the claim?", "What documents are still needed?", "Who is the assigned adjuster and how do I reach them?"],
"on_behalf_of": "Jordan Reyes",
"transfer_to": "+12145550147",
"constraints": "Do not agree to any settlement amount. Do not share anything not listed in details."
}
- get_call runs in a loop with
wait_seconds: 50until the status isended. If the rep asks something new, like "what's the mailing address on the policy?", it shows up aspending_questionand your agent answers with answer_question if it knows, or asks you.
Example result
Example transcript excerpt:
Voice agent: Hi, I'm an automated assistant calling on behalf of Jordan Reyes about an existing auto claim. The claim number is C L 4 4 8 2 1 0. Rep: Okay, I can see the claim. Before I go into detail I'll need to verify the policyholder. Voice agent: Understood. Jordan is available. I'll connect them now.
If the rep gives general status without verification, you get answers like this:
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Current status | Estimate approved, waiting on the repair shop's final invoice |
| Documents still needed | Final invoice from the body shop, signed release form |
| Adjuster | Dana, extension 4471 |
outcome.next_steps: "Upload the final invoice through the claims portal. Dana will review within 3 business days."
Tips
- Put the claim number, date of loss, and the policyholder's name in
details. Those are the three things almost every claims rep asks first. - Always set
transfer_tofor insurance calls. Verification is common, and being patched in is faster than calling back yourself. - Use
constraintsto rule out anything binding, like accepting a settlement. - If you're on a mobile you might not answer in time, add a
callback_numberso the rep can reach you directly.
What it costs
A typical claim status call with a 15 minute hold and a 3 minute conversation runs about 18 minutes after the answer: $1 plus 13 minutes at $0.25, so $4.25. No charge if the line is busy or nobody picks up.

Questions
Will the insurance company talk to an AI about my claim?
Some reps will share general status once they have a claim number. Many need to verify the policyholder first. When that happens, the voice agent can patch you in with transfer_to so you verify yourself and take it from there.
Will the voice agent give my Social Security number or policy password?
No. It never gives SSNs, card numbers, or passwords over the phone. It can share facts you put in details, like a claim number, date of loss, or your name.
What if I'm on hold for 25 minutes?
The voice agent waits silently. You pay $1 for the first 5 minutes after the line is answered, then $0.25 a minute, up to a 30 minute cap.
Can it file a new claim?
It can ask how to file and what they need, and pass along facts you allow. Filing usually needs identity checks, so plan to be patched in for that part.
