Have AI call car dealerships for you
Short answer: Give your agent the listing: year, make, model, trim, color and the stock number or VIN. CallForMe calls the dealer, confirms the car is still there, and asks for the out-the-door price with every fee and add-on named, plus an email copy. It can also call the service department. Each answered call costs $1.
A listing online doesn't mean the car is on the lot, and the advertised price doesn't include what you pay. Most dealer calls are one of three questions: is it still here, what's the full price, and can service fit me in. Your agent can ask all three without a salesperson's follow-up calls landing on your phone.
To find which dealers have a model and book a drive at the best one, see book a test drive at nearby dealers. This page covers the rest of the calls you make to a dealership.

Call the dealer about the 2025 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium in blue, stock number 48213. Ask if it's still on the lot, the out-the-door price with tax, title, doc fee and any add-ons listed separately, and if they'll email that quote to me.
Other dealership calls:
- "Ask 3 Honda dealers near 30318 if they have a 2026 CR-V EX-L in white on the lot or arriving this month, and whether they charge over sticker."
- "Call the dealer's service department and ask the price of the 30,000 mile service on my 2021 Mazda CX-5, and the first appointment with a loaner."
- "Ask the dealer what they'd offer for my 2017 Ford Escape SE with 88,000 miles as a trade-in, and whether they need to see it first."
What the dealer will ask
plan_call has no dealership category, so what it flags depends on wording:
- The example prompt pairs "2025" with "price", which fires the generic quote category. The year counts as the item detail it wants, so nothing is flagged.
- If the goal says "car", "truck" or "SUV" next to a price word, it lands in the vehicle quote category, which marks year, make and model as blocking. A full listing already satisfies it.
- "Is the blue RAV4 still available, and what's the doc fee?" matches no category, so plan_call flags nothing. The salesperson will still ask for your name and phone. Set
on_behalf_ofandcallback_number, or you'll get a warning that the assistant is calling for "a customer".
Other things dealers ask:
- Are you financing, leasing or paying cash?
- Do you have a trade-in?
- When can you come in?
- What's your email for the quote?
Questions worth asking
- Is this exact car (stock number or VIN) on the lot, or in transit?
- Out-the-door price, itemized: price, doc fee, tax, title and registration.
- Any dealer add-ons (protection packages, window etching, nitrogen tires), and can they be removed?
- Any market adjustment over the sticker price?
- Will you email that itemized quote?
- Who should I ask for if I come in?
The fees that aren't in the ad
The advertised price usually leaves out tax, title and registration, which every buyer pays, and two things that vary by dealer: the documentation fee and pre-installed add-ons. Doc fee rules differ by state. A July 2025 Troutman Pepper summary notes California's cap was $85 at the time, while other states have no cap and fees can run over $1,000. Asking for each line on the phone, and for an emailed copy, is how you compare two dealers fairly.
How call_around works for dealers
query: "Toyota dealer" near your zip with count: 3 asks each dealer the same inventory and price questions. Leave out stop_after so you get every answer. Put the trim, color, any must-have options and your trade-in in details. call_around skips businesses that are closed right now and never dials before 7am local time; dealer sales floors usually open mid-morning.
What trips these calls up
- "Come in and we'll talk numbers." A common answer. The assistant records it; the dealers who email an itemized quote are the short list.
- The car "just sold" but there's another one. Ask for the new stock number and the price of that car, not the one you called about.
- Callbacks to your phone. Giving your number means a salesperson may call back. Use
callback_numberonly if you want that. - Service versus sales. The main number often goes to sales. Ask for service by name, or find the service department's number with find_business.
What it costs
$1 per dealer that answers, including the first 2 minutes. Dealer calls often sit on hold while someone checks the lot: a call that runs 6 minutes bills $1 + 4 x $0.40 = $2.60. Three dealers at 2, 4 and 6 minutes: $1 + $1.80 + $2.60 = $5.40. A dealer who doesn't pick up costs nothing.

Questions
Will a dealer give an out-the-door price by phone?
Many will give one by email if you ask for it item by item. Some will only say 'come in'. Either answer is useful: the dealers who put numbers in writing are the ones worth the drive.
What's a doc fee?
A dealer's charge for paperwork. Some states cap it and some don't, so it ranges from small to several hundred dollars or more depending on where you buy. Ask for it as its own line.
Can it negotiate the price?
It can ask whether the dealer will match a written quote you already have, if you put the number in constraints. It won't invent a competing offer or agree to buy.
Can it book a test drive?
Yes. For checking several dealers and booking the best one, see the test drive use case linked on this page.
