Have AI call restaurants for you

Tell your agent the restaurant, party size and time. CallForMe calls the host stand, books the table or asks your question, and reports the confirmed time. It can also call several restaurants for the first open table at 7pm Friday. Calls go best outside the lunch and dinner rush. Each answered call costs $1.

“Call Italian restaurants near Uptown Dallas until one has a table for 4 this Friday between 7 and 8pm, and book it under Morgan. Ask if they can do a gluten-free pasta.”

Restaurants that don't use online booking still take reservations by phone, and the phone is where the waitlist, the private room and the "we can do 8:45" live. The host stand is also the busiest phone in town at 7pm.

Other restaurant calls:

  • "Call Nonna's Trattoria and ask how long the walk-in wait is for 2 right now."
  • "Ask 5 restaurants near me if they have a private room for 14 on December 12 and what the minimum spend is."
  • "Call the sushi place on Lemmon and order a pickup: two spicy tuna rolls and a miso soup, for Sam, ready at 6:30."

What the host will ask

Words like reservation, table, party of or book dinner put the call in the reservation category of plan_call. It flags party size and the date and time with an acceptable range as blocking, plus a name and a callback number. If you leave out party size, the host asks first thing and the call waits on your agent. Hosts also ask:

  • Indoor or patio? Booth or bar seating OK?
  • Any occasion, allergies, high chairs or wheelchair access?
  • Are you OK with a two-hour table limit?

Put a fallback in if_asked: "If 7 isn't open, anything from 6:30 to 8:30 is fine."

Questions worth asking

  • Can you seat us at this time, and how long do we have the table?
  • How do you handle a gluten, nut or shellfish allergy?
  • Is there a cancellation fee or a deposit?
  • For groups: is there a set menu or a minimum spend?

How call_around works for restaurants

query: "italian restaurant" near a neighborhood, count: 6, stop_after: 1, and the party size and time in the goal. Start it in the afternoon. plan_call reads the restaurant's local time and tells your agent when it's in the rush, and suggests 2 to 5pm for anything that isn't for tonight. For tonight, calling now is still right.

What trips these calls up

  • Online-only books. Some restaurants say "we only take reservations on our site." The assistant asks about the walk-in waitlist instead.
  • The rush. At 7pm a host may put the call on hold or hang up. Your agent can redial in 20 minutes.
  • Large parties. Groups over 8 often go to an events manager who calls back. See event venues.

What it costs

$1 per restaurant that answers, including 5 minutes. A reservation call takes about a minute. Six restaurants, the third books you: about $3. The demo line is free.

Questions

When is the best time to call a restaurant?

Between 2 and 5pm local time. plan_call checks the restaurant's local time and warns when it's 11:45am to 1:15pm or 5:30 to 8:30pm, when hosts are busiest and calls are rushed.

Can it put down a credit card to hold the table?

No. It never reads card numbers aloud. If a restaurant needs a card, it tells the host you will handle payment yourself. Many restaurants then text or email a card link, or let you call back with a card.

Can I try it without paying?

Yes. Maple Street Pizza is a fictional restaurant on the CallForMe demo line. Ask your agent to call it and book a table; demo calls are free.

Can it order takeout?

It can place a simple pickup order and ask for the total and ready time. It won't pay, so you pay at pickup.
