Business calls in text: for deaf, blind and speech-disabled people

Short answer: If hearing or speaking on the phone is hard, your AI agent can make routine business calls for you with CallForMe. You type the errand; the assistant calls, works the menu and hold, and talks to the business. Its questions reach you in text, your typed answers are spoken for you, and you get a written transcript.

“Call my pharmacy and ask if my blood pressure refill is ready. The prescription is under Sam Ortiz, date of birth 3/14/1958. If it isn't ready, ask when it will be.”

Plenty of errands still only happen by phone: a pharmacy refill, moving an appointment, asking a shop if something's in stock, sorting out a bill. If hearing the other person or speaking clearly on a call is hard, your AI agent can make those calls for you and keep your side of it in text.

How it works

  1. Type the errand to the AI you already use, Claude or ChatGPT, with CallForMe added. Say who to call, what you need, and anything they'll ask for (a name, a date of birth, an order or account number).
  2. The assistant calls. It opens with "an assistant calling for" you, on a recorded line, works the phone menu, waits on hold, and talks to the person who answers.
  3. Questions come to you in text. If the business asks something you didn't include, your chat shows the question while they wait. Your typed answer is spoken for you. See when the business asks something unknown.
  4. Read the result. You get the answers, any confirmation number, and a written transcript of the whole call. See transcripts and recordings.

Calls that work well

  • Pharmacy: is a refill ready, is a medicine in stock. See pharmacy stock.
  • Appointments: book, move or cancel with a doctor, dentist, salon or repair shop. See reschedule an appointment.
  • Shops: hours, stock, whether an order is ready. See is my order ready.
  • Bills and accounts: a fee, a plan change, a cancellation. Many of these ask for an account number and billing ZIP, so include them. See cancel a subscription by phone.
  • Several places at once: "Ask the three pharmacies near me who has it in stock." See call around.

If you're blind or have low vision

Phone trees are hard to follow by ear and harder to answer before they time out. The assistant listens to the menu, presses the keys, and waits on hold, so you don't have to catch "press 4 for billing" the first time. Everything comes back as plain text in your chat: the answers, the confirmation number, and the transcript, which your screen reader reads like any other message. The callforme.tel pages score 100 on Lighthouse's automated accessibility check.

Tips

  • Put everything they'll ask for in the request: the name it's under, date of birth for medical offices, the account or order number. Fewer questions mid-call means a faster call.
  • Say what's OK to agree to. "If Thursday is full, Friday morning is fine" saves a round trip.
  • Some calls need the account holder's own voice (a bank confirming identity, for example). The assistant tells you when that happens and what the business said, so you can choose another way.

Questions

Do I need to hear or speak at any point?

No. You type the request, read the questions that come back during the call, type your answers, and read the result. The assistant does all the talking and listening.

What if the business asks something I didn't include?

The question shows up in your chat while the business waits on the line, about 45 seconds. Type the answer and the assistant says it for you. If you don't answer in time, it tells them you'll follow up.

Can it call a friend or family member for me?

No. CallForMe calls businesses only, never personal numbers.

What does it cost?

$1 per answered call, including the first 2 minutes, then 40 cents a minute. Calls nobody answers are free. There's no subscription; you add $10 to start.
