Cancel a subscription by phone with your AI agent
Short answer: Tell your agent what to cancel and give it the account number and the phone or address on the account. CallForMe calls, works the menu, waits on hold, and asks to cancel. If the company verifies the account holder, the assistant patches you in for that step. Ask for a confirmation number and the final billing date either way. Answered calls start at $1.
Signing up took one click. Cancelling takes a phone call, a menu that hides the cancel option, a hold queue, and a rep whose job is to keep you. Alarm monitoring, newspapers, satellite radio, meal kits with phone-only support, warranty plans, some software and magazine subscriptions: the pattern is the same. Most of that call is waiting, which is the part your agent can take off your hands.
The pattern that works: wait for you, then hand off
Most services won't cancel until they've verified the account holder. They ask for the last four digits of the card on file, a PIN, or a code texted to you. The assistant won't read out card digits or passwords, so for these lines the best plan is:
- The assistant calls, works the menu, and sits through the hold.
- When a person picks up, it gives your name and account number and asks to cancel.
- If they need to verify you, it says one moment and patches you in with
transfer_to. You do the 30-second verification and confirm.
If the company cancels on the account number and the phone on file, you never have to pick up.
What your agent does
- find_business for the cancellation or customer service number, or use the number on your statement.
- plan_call with the goal. Any goal like "cancel my ... subscription" (or service, plan, membership, contract) lands in the cancel category, which flags three things: the name on the account, the account or member number, and the address, email or phone on the account. Put all three in details so the call doesn't stop to ask.
- place_call:

Example result
Illustrative example: names, prices and times are made up. Transcript excerpt:
Assistant: Hi, this is an AI assistant calling for Priya Shah, on a recorded line. She'd like to cancel her alarm monitoring, account 88-41207. Rep: I can help. Before I do, we can drop her to $19.99 a month for the next year. Assistant: Thanks, but please go ahead and cancel it. Rep: Understood. I'll need to verify the account holder with a code sent to the phone on file. Assistant: One moment, I'm connecting you with Priya Shah now.
Priya confirms the code with the rep and gets the confirmation number herself. The result your agent gets covers the call up to the hand-off:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Status | Patched in for verification |
| Retention offer | $19.99/month for 12 months (declined) |
| Required from Priya | A code texted to the phone on file |
| Time on hold before a rep | 12 minutes |
After a transfer, the rest of the conversation is between you and the rep, so write down the confirmation number and final billing date they give you. When a company cancels on the account number alone, the assistant collects both and they come back in the result.
Call length up to the hand-off 15 minutes, $3.50.
Tips
- Ask for the cancel option out loud. Many menus don't list it. The assistant picks the option closest to a person who can help, and asks the rep for cancellations directly.
- Say how to handle offers. "Decline all offers" is what most people want. If you'd consider a lower price, say the price in constraints and the assistant checks with your agent before accepting anything.
- Get the final billing date, not just "you're cancelled." It tells you which charge should be the last one.
- Pick a call time when you can answer. With
transfer_toset, keep your phone nearby for the length of the hold. - Watch your next statement. A confirmation number is your proof if a charge appears anyway.
What it costs
$1 for the first 5 minutes of an answered call, then $0.25 a minute. Hold time counts, so long cancellation queues cost more: 15 minutes is $1 + 10 x $0.25 = $3.50. If the line is busy or nobody answers, it's free.

Questions
Will the company cancel without talking to me?
Some will, with the account number and the address or phone on file. Others insist on the account holder for the verification step. Set transfer_to and the assistant handles the menu and the hold, then connects you only for that part.
What happens with the retention offer?
The assistant declines it once and asks again to cancel. If you'd like to hear offers first, say so in the goal and it reports them back instead of declining.
Can it pay an early termination fee?
No. It never reads out card numbers. It asks what the fee is and how it's charged, and reports back so you can decide.
What should I keep afterward?
The confirmation number, the rep's name if given, the final billing date, and the call transcript. If a charge shows up after that date, those are what you send your card issuer.
